Suppose that hot dogs come in packs of 9 and buns come in packs of 12 . kareem bought the same number of hot dogs as buns. it was the least number of each for which this was possible.

Buns - 3 packs (12 times 3 = 36)

note, 9=3^2 and 12=2^2*3
therefore lcm=3^2*2^2=36
