Hi! 
The Jews were forced to live in ghettos throughout European history. These were segregated communities put in place by church laws. The ghettos kept the Jews confined using sentires and high walls. They were allowed to leave during the day but had a curfew that required them to be inside at night.
They are called "the ghettos" don't get it confused with the 2017 definition of ghettos ;D
