Rudolf Virchow is one of the scientists being credited for postulating the cell theory. He specially worked on the third component of the theory which said that all cells come from preexisting cells. Previously it was believed that new cells formed from a fluid substance called as blastema. Blastema imbalance lead to various kind of diseases. Many scientists disproved this theory of spontaneous generation by showing that under sterile conditions new cells can not be formed until and unless a parent cell is already present. But it was Virchow's work which got largely recognized.
