In the Tinker v. Des Moines Supreme Court case, the dissenting opinion is best summarized by statement 'B. It was proven that other students were allowed to wear controversial symbols, so their suspension was unconstitutional.' This is because in the year before the incident happened, the school had allowed everyone to wear black armbands in mourning of the death of school spirit. However, when the students wore black armbands to protest the Vietnam War, they were threatened with suspension. This was clearly a violation of their right to free speech. Student speech may only be limited when their speech becomes libelous or when it invades privacy.
D.Schools have reserved the right to limit expression in past cases and the armbands were, indeed, disruptive. -Apex
