European nations were extremely interested to conquer and exploit a region overflowing with resources, and they looked upon its natives not as partners but as individuals to convert or to conquer. The Indians’ firm instruct of what is now the United States was not to end. And by 1820 they had lost authority of land east of the Mississippi River, and a simple sixty years after the posterities of those new arrival balanced so insecurely on the Atlantic in 1620 conquered the continent straight to the Pacific.
