Generally speking, Islam has 5 basic rules that all Muslims should follow, in order for them to live a good and responsible life according to thei religion. These rules are as follows;

Shahadah (declaration of faith) - "There is no god, but Allah Muhammad is the messenger of Allah". This is what Muslims say when they are accepting Islam, or during their daily prayers.

Salah (prayer) - Muslims need to pray five times a day, kneeling towards Mecca.

Zakat (charity) - Every year, each Muslim shoud give money to charity; usually 2.5% of their savings. It they have no financial resources, they can do other things instead.

Sawm (fasting during months of Ramadan) - Fasting in Islam means no eating or drinking from sunrise to sunset.

Hajj - It is the pilgrimage to Mecca that Muslims need to do at least once in their lives. If Muslims cannot afford the trip, or they are physically unfit to do it, they don't have to.
