Gerald Gardner learned of Wiccan from many different sources. He was introduced to the occult through Rosicrucianism, which was founded by George Alexander Sullivan. Gardner disagreed with much of what was taught by the order and eventually found the New Forest coven which he believed was the remanent of a pre-Christian Wiccan cult. Gardner became fond of the group, especially the Wiccan priestess Edith Woodford-Grimes. During his time with New Forest, he traveled back and forth to London, where he eventually came in contact with Aleister Crowley and his teachings of Thelema. Gardner combined the knowledge and rituals he had learned throughout his journeys to create Gardnerianism.
