The extinction caused by humans has been the highest in the Holocene or Anthropocene epoch or in the last 11,700 years but has been much more pronounced in the last probably 200 years of human history. A combination of overpopulation by humans and unbridled consumption has exacerbated this. This the 6th major extinction. Such things as degradation of coral reefs, acidification of the oceans and reduction of rain forest areas are some of the things that have contributed to this.
