Transitional epithelium tissue can be stretched on contracted. The tissue is found in organs within the body that need to expand or contract depending on the volume of liquid within that organ. Think of the urinary bladder that must expand as it fills and then must contract as the bladder is emptied. The transitional epithelium tissue allows for this function to occur within the urinary bladder.
