The two main types of sources historians use to gather information about
the past are primary and secondary sources. Primary sources refer to
such documents, experiments, accounts, recordings, etc. that provide
direct information about something. Secondary sources were created as
not a first-hand experience, so those are various historical books etc.
written by people who didn't actually experience all they were writing
about.
