Solon was given special authority by the Athenians in the
year 594 BC to tackle the ongoing economic depression and their consequences.
He actually started the idea of harmonic government where people were freed
from debts and slavery. He changed the total character and outlook of
citizenship. Solon actually ranked citizens into four categories based on their
income. His reforms gave the labour class a say on the political scenario. This
idea would get stronger with passage of time. His reforms took a middle path,
where the poor as well as the rich were balanced.
