The character and the narrator are telling the story in the first person. The main character,Gordon Lachance, retells what happened in the past ,but at the same time he makes comments referring to the present. These are reflections he shares with the reader in a dialogical way. In this quotation: "They are the things you are ashamed of, because words diminish them,," we can see the dialogical tone mainly through the use of you. "..But it's more than that, isn't it? ..", in this quotation the use of the question tag also reflects a dialogical tone. "That's the worst, I think. ", here, the use of I think shows the direct voice of the narrator/ character.
