The two different habitats that can be found in the prairie ecosystem are the tall grass prairie and the short grass prairie. The tall grass prairie is found in the eastern side of the Great Plains. A variety of grass grow in the tall grass prairie such as switch grass, Indian grass and big bluestem. Cattle can also be raised in this area because of its abundant and nutritious grasses. On the other hand, the short grass prairie is located in the western region of the base of the Rocky Mountains. The grasses that can be found here are gamma ang buffalo grass as well as sagebrush and other shrubs like cactus. It is used for grazing cattle to roam.
