Respuesta :

The conflict in "The Lady, or the Tiger" is person vs. self. The princess was struggling internally to make a decision because of her feelings for the young man.

The conflict in the story "The Necklace" is external, and it happens due to the fact that Madame Loisel believes she has to pay for a real diamond necklace.

What is conflict?

In literature, conflict can be described as the struggle between two opposing forces. We can have external and internal conflicts. An external conflict is one that happens between a character and an outside force, such as nature or society.

In Guy de Maupassant's "The Necklace," Madame Loisel believes she has lost a real diamond necklace owned by a friend. This is where her external conflict begins. She has to work for ten years to be able the pay for the necklace she bought to replace the one she lost.

It turns out that the necklace she lost was actually made of fake diamonds. Madame Loisel only finds out about that after those ten years have passed. Had she been truthful to her friends, she could have avoided all that suffering.
