Respuesta :

A. Counted on.  The word "fickle" means changing quickly

The Wanderer is the story of one man's stand on search of fate, happiness and understanding where the protagonist is having a journey in a lonely exile. In the exile he thinks about his good days when his lord was alive and how happy he was. He tries to understand the concept of wisdom behind his fate. In search of wisdom, the wanderer thinks about God and tries to reconnect all the happenings with the divine well-being. While in the beginning he views the fate as something that cannot be resisted, he comes to the conclusion that he is in control of his fate. The word fickle which would be the description  for the fate as a changing turn of events is used in the first part of the poem. And the correct answer is A when the wanderer was in doubt and despair.
