A jet flew to the maintenance facility and back. The trip there took ten hours and the trip back took four hours. It averaged 420 mph on the return trip. Find the average speed of the trip there.

speed is distance over time

miles per hour is distance over time

so if it averaged 420 miles an hour

is it not 420 miles per hour?
 
perhaps i am misunderstanding something?
