Edward Munch was a pretty "quirky" individual. Keep in mind that he displayed traits of paranoia and anxiety and these two attributes are quite prominent in his artworks. For example, The Scream shows a distorted figure that represents Munch in a situation where he felt alienated and isolated from his surroundings and this is shown in the turbulent, curvy lines which sort of creates a feeling of discomfort and panic.
