The pattern is the number of sides that the shape has. A triangle has 3, the square has 4, the pentagon has 5, then the next shape is a hexagon which has 6 sides, a heptagon has 7, and an octagon has 8. So draw the next three shapes after the pentagon.

I'm going to set this up in a ratio for you. You are going to convert these into regular fractions. So then it becomes
8/48 = 3/x
Then you need to cross multiply. You will do 3*48 divided by 8.
(3*48) = 144
144 divided by 8 is 18.
X = 18
There were 18 adults.
