He presented two mechanisms, Volcanic activity and geosyncline uplift.
Answer: According to James Hutton, the rocks are restored on the earth's surface after under-going various processes in the following ways-
- The rocks that are destroyed at the subduction zone due to the convergent plate boundary are again replenished by the sea floor spreading at the mid oceanic ridge, where new crusts are formed. The plate tectonic theory proves this point.
- Volcanic activities also allows the magma to come out to the surface and gets solidified intensively forming extrusive igneous rocks.
- The sediments after weathering and erosion, transported from one place to another by the agents like wind, water and ice, are deposited at a particular place, undergoes compaction and solidification and forms a new sedimentary rock.
This are some of the ways in which the rocks on the earth keeps on circulating and balancing the total crust.
