In general, the German people were very upset about the outcome of the World War, and especially upset that they were then asked to pay large reparations to the Allies. 

After the defeat and the surrender of the troops, they were imposed heavy economic punishments, as payment for having initiated the combats and to compensate for the losses of the allies. The amount of these repairs was totally out of reality, it was practically priceless. This added Unemployment caused an economic crisis, which in turn, unleashed a tremendous devaluation of the currency. The "valuta" paper was worth nothing. All of them led to a widespread anger of the German population, and with it the birth and development of German nationalism.
