Now that you have chosen your two competencies whether in the 12 core functions or TAP 21, please post the information similar to the example below only in Mod 4 discussion post. Also, tell the rest of the class why you chose the core function that you did and how you plan to get better or learn more about it. Please choose one you know you need to improve because being a good counselor always includes self-assessment and self-actualization. If you choose one you are already knowledgeable in, it really does not help strengthen your effectiveness as a counselor.

In Module 4, I'd like to share my choice of competencies for further development and growth in my counseling journey. After careful consideration, I have selected "Screening" from the 12 core functions.

Chosen Competency: Screening

Reason for Choice:

I have chosen Screening as my focus for further development because I believe it is an essential aspect of the counseling process that requires careful attention and skillful implementation. While I have a basic understanding of screening procedures, I recognize the importance of honing my abilities in this area to ensure thorough and accurate assessments of clients' needs.

Plan for Improvement:

To enhance my proficiency in Screening, I plan to engage in the following activities:

1. Further Education: I will seek out additional resources, such as literature, online courses, and workshops, to deepen my understanding of screening tools, techniques, and best practices.

2. Supervision and Mentorship: I will actively seek supervision and guidance from experienced counselors or supervisors who can provide feedback, guidance, and support as I work to improve my screening skills.

3. Practice and Application: I will actively incorporate screening procedures into my counseling sessions, applying newly acquired knowledge and techniques to real-world scenarios. This hands-on experience will allow me to refine my skills and build confidence in my ability to effectively screen clients.

By focusing on the Screening competency and actively pursuing opportunities for learning and growth, I am committed to becoming a more effective and competent counselor, better equipped to meet the diverse needs of my clients.
