The step that will ensure that the cells will adhere to the slide is that once it has been placed with the bacteria, it needs to be stained in which dyes are used in making the cells to stay in the slide and for it to be properly be seen and viewed in the microscope. It is best to follow instructions, in order to prevent complications that will ruin the structure inside the slide.
