An autonomous region is somewhere that is not ruled by a democracy or by royalty. They are free from any outsiders ruling them. Small groups of minorities populate them. They are also usually distant from the country they are apart of. However, they also do not have as many resources because of their difference in laws for importation and things in that nature. There are at least 5 of these in China. However these are also known as federates, which means that they are also forced to be independent in internal affairs yet they can be joined by other treaties.
