Simplify.

-1 - 7x + 42 + 6x = 36

Add 1 to both sides.

-7x + 42 + 6x = 36 + 1

Simplify.

-x + 42= 37

Subtract 42 from both sides.

Simplify.

-x = -5

Divide both sides by -1.

x = 5
