Activity: Shape Sort and Graph

Purpose: The purpose of this activity is to help students practice identifying and sorting shapes, as well as creating and interpreting bar graphs.

Materials:

- Paper

- Markers

- Scissors

- Glue

- Shape templates (circle, square, triangle, rectangle)

- Graph template

- Crayons or colored pencils

Instructions:

1. Begin by discussing different shapes with the students, reinforcing the names and characteristics of each shape.

2. Hand out the shape templates to each student and have them cut out the shapes.

3. Instruct the students to glue the shapes onto a piece of paper and label each shape.

4. Once the shapes are sorted, hand out the graph template and instruct the students to create a bar graph using the number of each shape they have.

5. Have the students color in the appropriate number of sections on the graph for each shape.

6. Once the graphs are completed, discuss the results as a class and compare the number of each shape.
