Explain how cultural interactions between colonizing groups, africans, and american indians in the colonial era impacted the development of american colonial identity.

Respuesta :

Only small number of Europeans among the colonizing groups considered American-Indians as their equals. However, the majority of Europeans accepted the importance of Indians in their expedition to exploit America's resources. As such, they still had to cooperate with them. Africans were simply considered of use for their labour by Europeans. As such, European superiority saw feisty efforts to change the beliefs and worldviews of the other two groups. However, the Indians strived to uphold their political and cultural independence through resistance which often led to conflict. In contrast, the Africans remained subjugated by the association of slavery. This led them to lose a huge part of their identity.

The American colonial identity, from the beginning of the colonization of the United States, was built in opposition to Native Americans and African Americans. These two groups were considered culturally and religiously inferior to Europeans.

Further explanation

It was surprising to learn that the Indians became slaves to the settlers as soon as they arrived in North America. They mixed with slaves from Africa to the tobacco or cotton plantations. However, they had a slightly different status in some colonies. For example, the Spaniards regarded them as servants and not as slaves. They even gave them names. However, in the majority of cases, they were treated as badly as blacks. The settlers regarded these colored populations as savages.

Native Americans had an advantage over Africans. Originally from the region, they knew the territory very well and were very successful in escaping from their masters. They had been in contact for several centuries with Africans, so new families created. Even today, there are still those kinds of mixed-blood communities in the United States. The Indians and the Africans had a similar history and pains for 400 years.
