The balance of power is one of the most important principles protected by the Constitution. The balance of power prevents any branch of government from gaining too much power or control of the whole government. The constitution attempts to prevent this in several ways. For example:
1. The president can use his veto power to block legislation from Congress.
2. Both Congress and the president have to agree when nominating a new justice to the Supreme Court.
3. The Supreme Court can declare a law passed by Congress to be unconstitutional.
