Gregor Mendel, sometimes called the father of genes, studied heredity through crossing different pea plants. Looking at the characteristics that were dominant and recessive through the generations. He took note of the pod color, pea color, pod shape, flower color, size, etc. He discovered that genes are passed from parent to offspring. The traits were inherited by the pea plant.
He discovered that Traits are inherited independently of each other.
