Empiricism is the idea that knowledge is acquired through observed experiences and the foundation of psychology. The study and application of psychology has always been based on careful research that produced reliable evidence. Should you be able to answer questions about psychology without respecting the foundation it was built on?
“Listen to advice and accept instruction, that you may gain wisdom in the future” (Proverbs 19:20). Proverbs highlights the importance of understanding past knowledge to help you draw conclusions in the future. Studying psychology involves making plenty of observations. Anyone can state a hypothesis or draw a conclusion of their own, but it is necessary to test your hypothesis before you can confidently answer any questions. Psychology, just like other natural sciences, aims to understand, describe, and predict natural phenomena, but that cannot be done without evidence.
