Spring: Was originally called "lent" in Old English, then "springing time" and "spring time" between the 14th and 16th centuries because of plants springing up out of the ground, then shortened to "spring" from that.
Summer: From the Old English term for the time of year, "sumor."
Fall: Not entirely clear, most likely due simply to the falling of leaves
Winter: Comes from the Proto-Germanic word, "wentruz."
