When scanning nonfiction text, what should the reader focus on SPECIFIC FACTS OR PIECE OF INFORMATION without reading the whole document.
There are two ways of tackling a non-fiction text. First is to SCAN before reading the chapten. Then, RUN while reading the chapter.
SCAN:
Survey the headings and turn them into questions.
Capture visuals and captions to determine their meanings
Attack bold faced words
Note and read chapter questions.
RUN
Read and adjust speed
Use word identification skills (vocalizing the words, context clues, etymology of the words)
Notice and check parts you don't understand
