Biosimilars are the medicines similar to biological drugs (obtained with the use of living cells) while "generics" refer to small molecule drugs (obtained by chemical synthesis).

Generics are considered identical and interchangeable while biosimilars are "only similar" and can not be automatically perceived as interchangeable.

Worth mentioning is that 'biosimilars' is part of a larger group called 'biological products' to which e.g. vaccines belong as well.
