In the late 1800s, the largest number of immigrants to the United States came from Western and Northern Europe countries such as Great Britain, Scandinavia, and Ireland. However, immigrants from Asia, especially Japan and China, started to increase during this period. Immigrants arrived in the main ports of the United States, California for Asians and New York for Europeans. They went to the larger cities where industries and fabrics were located. These place became overpopulated and culture and race problems and confrontations became an issue.
