This is true. The Ukiyo-e was a type of art creating that came form Japan and that impressionists were known for incorporating. The idea was called Japonism and was common in France who studied the Japanese arts extensively and found a way to incorporate their ideas in their art.

While Sisley’s work was well done, his subjects offended the establishment. Also, his impressionist work was done mainly in London, so he was away from the center of impressionism in Paris.

Both were considered neo-impressionists, but both also had a dark view of the world and at one time attempted (even though Gauguin survived his attempt while van Gogh didn’t). They worked side by side as friends and artists while in the town of Arles.
