During World War I many women were recruited to fill the position left by men who were going to war. This was an excellent economic opportunity for women who could now earn wages doing jobs that were not available to them before.
Even though the wages were low compared to what men were earning, women finally had the opportunity to work outside the home, and to prove their worthiness in the workplace.
Unfortunately, after the war ended the vast majority of women were laid off to employ the returning soldiers. Economic opportunities for women abruptly were gone. Women again returned to their home duties, but eventually will find their place in the job market in the coming decades.
Finally, women obtained recognition for a job well done, and working during the war years open the doors for women around the world to become more independent now than in any other time in the past.
The end of World War I affected the women in their workplace as it ended economic opportunities for women.
