Respuesta :

when a sailboat is using sail power they are the stand on vessels when crossing. Motorboats need to look out for sailboats

Answer:

The powerboat is the give way vessel. This is because powerboat is easy to maneuver and can as well turn easily. Any boat that overtakes another boat is the give-way vessel while the boat that is overtaken is the stand on vessel. A sailboat could find it difficult to maneuver because of the wind.

According to rule 13 (NAVIGATION RULE), where a sailboat overtakes a powerboat, the sailboat must stay clear of the powerboat.

In rare circumstances, sailboat is the give way vessel.

Such circumstance can occur if,

  • The powerboat finds it difficult to maneuver due to wind
  • The powerboat is overtaken by the sailboat
  • The powerboat engaged in commercial fishing
  • The powerboat has something under tow
  • The powerboat is not in operation.
  • The powerboat cannot move due to leeward.

Sailboat gives way to slow moving vessels such as tankers, cruise ship

It is advisable that Helmsman (a boat driver) should take proper precaution to avoid collision at all time.
