There are two types of electrolytes: the strong and the weak electrolytes. Strong electrolytes are those which dissociates completely in solutions while weak electrolytes are those that do not. HCl is a strong electrolyte since it is a strong acid while HC2H3O2 is a weak one as it is a weak acid as well.
Answer and explanation;
- HCl is an example of strong acid as it ionizes completely in solution form to form hydrogen ions
- HCl ionizes in solution form into Hydrogen ions (H+) and Chloride ions (Cl-).
- HC2H3O2 , is an example of weak acids as it does not ionize completely in solution form hydrogen ions. Acetic acid is represented with opposing half arrows between the reactants and products (H+ and C2H3O2).
- Any acid that ionizes 100 percent into ions is called a strong acid while the one that does not undergo a complete dissociation is a weak acid.
