I would say something along the lines of socioeconomic status and the population density. meaning if you have an area with a community of people that are pore (mainly to pore to afford contraceptive methods) and there are a lot of them in a small area the population will grow faster. if your thinking more along the lines of animals then you might want to consider food availability and predator prey ratio.
