If we let the volume just be the base area b times the height h then:

V1=bh  so if that b is triples the other volume would be

V2=3bh

Now the percent change is mathematically:

%change=100(final-initial)/initial, in this case:

%change=100(V2-V1)/V1

%change=100(3bh-bh)/(bh)

%change=100(2bh)/bh

%change=200%

Note: That is SEEMS like this is a 300% increase because it is three times the original amount, but it is not 300% CHANGE.  Just as 2 is not a 200% change from 1.  2 is a 100% increase of 1.
