John Locke believed that all human beings are born with inherent, God-given rights that include life, liberty and property. He also believed, as stated in his Second Treatise of Civil Government, that governments should be run through a social contract where the government has the consent of people. The Founding Fathers incorporated this belief of a government run by its people and inalienable rights into the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution, both documents outlining the rights of the people and the concept of their control over their nation.
