The intent of the encomienda system is to control and regulate American Indian labor and behavior. There were negative effects because the natives were treated badly. I think that the long term impact of the encomienda system in the Americas will be that it makes it harder to attract Spanish to colonize.

1.  The ecomiendia system was devised by the Spaniards to disperse groups of American Indians among the many Spanish settlers who came in the Americas. The encomienda system was designed to manage and regulate American Indian labor and behavior.

2. In my opinion the ecomienda system was bad for the Indians as the results of this were mostly negative for them and they were exploited, however the Spanish people gained new land and got to expand their territory which was good for them.

3.The long-term impact of the encomienda system in the Americas, I believe, will be that it makes it more difficult to attract Spanish colonists.
