The purpose of NEPAD is to promote African renewal.
NEPAD is an acronym of The New Partnership for Africa's Development. it was adopted in 2001 by African Heads of State and Government of the OAU and was ratified by the African Union (AU) in 2002 to address Africa’s development problems within a new paradigm. NEPAD’s main objectives are to reduce poverty, empower women put Africa on a sustainable development path an mitigate the marginalization of Africa. In 2008 Ministers of Africa and Heads of government adopted a political declaration to address “Africa’s development needs: state of implementation of various commitments, challenges and the way forward” . other than these NEPAD works on six theme, they are ;
Agriculture and Food Security
Regional Integration and Infrastructure
Economic and Corporate Governance
Cross-cutting Issues, including Gender, Capacity Development and ICT
Climate Change and Natural Resource Management
Human Development
The purpose of NEPAD are ;

and accelerate the empowerment of women.
