█ Problem █
If seven times a number is added to the squares of the number and the result is negative twelve, find the numbers.
◼ Let's place the letter x as 'a number' in this problem.
◼ 7x is 7 times a number
◼ x * x = x^2 for square of the number
◼ Set up the equation to x^2 + 7x
◼ We know the result is going to be -12. x^2 + 7x = -12
◼ Solve using the quadratic formula.
◼ x^2 + 7x + 12 = 0
◼ (x + 3)(x + 4) = 0
◼ The numbers are -4 and -3
Answer: -4 and -3
