The illustration shows a representative food web found in the marine environment. What would happen to this food web if the phytoplankton population were eliminated?

Carnivorous zooplankton populations would likely increase.

Predation rates by penguins on fish would likely cease.

Respuesta :

It's option 3, The consumers on the web would likely starve.

Phytoplankton are at the bottom, which means they are the most important, they feed the krill, and if the plankton die off, the krill will starve, and when the krill starve, their population starts going down, leading to the zooplankton, fish, birds, seals, and pretty much everything else starving and more thank likely dying. This is why people are so concerned about certain endangered species dying out.
