Pulmonary circulation is when blood is carried away from the heart enters the lungs and returns the blood back to the heart. Systemic circulation is when blood is carries away from the heart to the body and return the deoxygenated blood back to the heart.

The pulmonary circulation refers to the portion of the cardiovascular system the carries deoxygenated blood from heart to lungs and then return oxygenated blood back to the heart.

The only arteries that carries oxygenated blood is the pulmonary arteries. Red blood cells releases carbon dioxide in the lungs and pick up oxygen during respiration. Then, the oxygenated blood leaves the lungs through the pulmonary veins and returns it to the left side of the heart, which completes the pulmonary circle. The oxygenated blood is spread to the body through the systematic circulation and return again to the pulmonary circulation

In 1242, Syrian physician, Ibn al-Nafis discovered the pulmonary circulation and English doctor, William Harvey was the first doctor to described blood circulation. In 1616, He gave a detailed explanation of pulmonary and systematic circulation system.

Systematic circulation is part of the cardiovascular system that provides blood supply to the entire body tissue. It moves oxygen and nutrients to the cell. The systematic circulation also picks up the waste products and carbon dioxide. It moves oxygenated blood directly from the left ventricle, which is through the arteries to the capillaries in the body tissues. The oxygenated blood returns from the tissue capillaries through a system of veins and moves it to the atrium of the heart.
