The answer is A. Attacking it's credibility isn't empathetic and its not going to get you anywhere near establishing common ground. Refute ing it isn't going to get you anywhere ether and if you agree with your opponents view point, why is he your opponent? That's my view on the matter, but don't quote me on this.

Being empathic means or showing empathy means to share a feeling, more likely as the phrase "to put yourself into the other's shoes". So generally, we do not show empathy by attacking or refuting others' viewpoints, that's what we least do. To establish common ground means to share points in common, but not neccesarily means to agree on everything if that's not your opinion. So this is why options B, C and D, aren't possible.

Whereas, option A, is exactly what we should do when using our empathy and establishing commong ground; respecting the ideas of others, and thinking about them without attacking or refuting, no need to agree if it's not the case, but analize and respect.
