Alright I know I'm late but I'll put this here anyways
Write your problem out.
2(y + 6) = 4y
then take away the parantheises [cannot spell im sorry]
add 2 on each side.
2 x y + 2 x 6 = 4y
Multiply 2 and 6.
2 x 12 = 4y
Move the 2 and use that to take away 2 from 4y.
12 = 2y
Final inverse operations, divide 12 by 2.
12 divided by 2 = 6
so,
y = 6
Your answer is;
2 should be distributed as 2y + 12; y = 6
