From the text, it can be seen that Farquhar is extremely happy that he survived the hanging. His energy was restored and he wept for joy.
It should be noted that his actions then show just how euphoric he was as he threw the sand up and compared it's beauty to everything beautiful which was most probably because he never thought that he would feel the ground again while he was still alive.
