Pepe will probably not return to mainstream use for many years, if he returns at all. While pepe startes out as a relatively innocent figure, the use of his image spread to the far-right groups and message boards of 4chan and reddit. Pepe soon became a symbol of the alt right and the white supremacy movement. Richard Spencer, a popular figure of this movement, has even been seen wearing a pepe pin. He was wearing this pin when he was so famously punched at the womens march, sparking the "Is it OK to Puch a Nazi" debate on various news sites and newspapers. Pepe is now officially filed with the Anti-Defamation League as a hate symbol.
