However,women not affected by the great depression because they went out in number to search for job when their male breadwinners have all lost their jobs. It was recorded that the number of employed women rose by 24%, going from 10 million to over 13 million. They, however, found a helper in the wife of Roosevelt, Eleanor Roosevelt, who lobbied her husband for more jobs for women in the cabinet. Women embraced less paid jobs-tailoring, nursing etc- which ordinarily, their male counterparts could not have taken.
